Featured Artist of The Week - Jen (aka WYSIWIGS)

Now it's a turn of my other dear friend, also a FAM member, Jen, to be my artist of the week. She is wonderful person with her sense of humour, she always makes our chat thread full with laughter.

From all things she has in her shop, this is what I like the best.

She calls it 'ON THE LINE PRINT' , I call it 'MR.RACOON'

If you asked me, do I know her in person...let me say this, I don't know her 'in person' at all...both of us, if I did not get it wrong, joined FAM at about the same time. Read some of her writings, discussions, comments....more or less, I think I know a bit about her. She is a cancer survival, and I always have an extra respect for those people cause I know how many trouble they need to pass over until they can be back as what they were before they knew they had it, and I saw some of the people just can't make it through....I have some cancer survival in my family, one of my aunt even has to stay in depression for years, until now...she just can't get it over her....anyway.......

Jen, as what I know, is very energic, cheerful and always have a positive attitude in any situtation, not easy huh? See how she explain about herself in her shop profile LOL

I'm a daughter, wife, mother, artist, horsecrazygrownup, scarychristianchick, interpreter, daydreamer, beginnerblogger, and cancerpatient the order of which is likely to change at any given moment :o)

Where do you get your inspiration?
At the risk of scaring people, I'm going to say largely from God (definitely the most sensible explanation for the way ideas are constantly popping into my head at weird times :o) Other than that, I love to wander the flea markets and antique stores and just poke around when I can.

What sets you apart from your competition?
Probably the fact that I am not competing. I've only recently begun drawing again after a very long time (so I'm a tad nervous about selling it - well, okay, maybe terrified is more accurate :o) A close friend talked me into putting some sketches in my shop. As for my origami and other items, I'm having such a good time making it all that I haven't even thought about "the competition" and don't really want to.

What medium do you work in the most?
Hmmmm...pencil for the most part; charcoal, and pen and ink for sketches. I went wild the other day and bought a set of pastels, but they're still sitting on the table in their little box staring at me. Right now I'm afraid of them, but maybe I'll get braver... As far as the origami pieces, all kinds of paper.

What piece of yours is your favorite right now?
I guess I'll be tacky and name two (since I'm creating in different directions). For the origami pieces, I'd say "Chocolat" (because it's CHOCOLATE) which is not listed yet, and for my sketches it would have to be "Mama N Me".

 

Who is the artist who inspires you the most?
Lyendecker from the early 1900s; I can never remember how to spell his name but I sure do love his work!

Where is home base for you?
Somewhere in Alabama, a very special place call "Bumblefart"...

What do you do to get over creative block or to take a break from creating?
I guess I'll have to get back to you on that as soon as my brain stops running at 900mph or I take a break :o)

Do you work outside of the home/studio, and if you do, what is your day job?
I work full time at a high school as an educational interpreter for a deaf student (who is also my daughter), and we also have 9 horses that will soon become a 501c3 (non-profit) entity - I'm still working on it.

Nope

Do you have a website or blog in addition to your etsy shop?
I've begun to think of this as "THE LIST" (the thought of which is usually accompanied by some ominous mental music - just remember, you asked :o)

I come with a very special topic today....PET.

A friend of mine, Heather, is a crafter who specialized in making things for our pet friend. On her shop, of course Etsy shop, I found this touch words wrote by her :

"I'm an artist and crafter in the Midwest. Dog Beds are my way of giving back to my own faithful friends and those who love them."

Honestly, I never even think so deep for my poor Pataud, perhaps I have to start to change my attitude to him....(sorry Pataud)

This is Trouble, posed nicely for Heather for her father's day greeting cards. It listed for father's day greeting cards, but actually it's a all-occasion greeting cards. Inside the card, there is a very simple sentence..."Top Hat and Tail"..it comes with a white envelope and a lavender sachet and pretty bow...

Featured Artist of The Week - TIFFANY HANSEN (a.k.a BAM DESIGNS)

I love to have a featured guest on my blog. It just makes my blog more alive, don't you think so;) so it's not only about Pyong...Pyong and Pyong again......LOL

Today featured artist, is my dear fellow FAMer - Tiffany Hansen a.k.a BAM (taken from her Etsy shop's name BAMDESIGNS). She works most of the time with felt - they are oh so cute...take my words for that ;). I like to read her blog, she has a very amusing one, please pay her a visit, you will like it like I do.

Beautiful personalized t-shirt for your big boy at home, isn't it gorgeous? We're not finding personalized t-shirt for big boy everyday, everywhere....suddenly I feel thankful that I was born to be a woman, not a man LOL...

Got to be serious, OK...last week, I posed her some questions regarding her works on this arts and crafts world..

Where do you get your inspiration?
My kids- i make a lot of my items based on things that i know my kids will like.  Both my son and daughter get my first on a lot of the kids clothing.  I also get some great inspiration from a group of supportive women- FAM- my street team on etsy.

What sets you apart from your competition?
I think it is the detail that i put into my work- i love to make sure that i get as much detail correct as possible because i think kids will love all that little extra that they see.  I pride myself on quality and put a lot of time and energy into my work but i think my attention to detail sets me apart.

What medium do you work in the most?
Felt, i do a lot with Felt.  I buy it by the yards.

What piece of yours is your favorite right now?
Oh that is a hard one because i really like a few of them right now but i would have to say the Turtle Love tshirt is one of my most favorites right now.  I had a lot of fun picking the material and loved how it all came together.

Who is the artist who inspires you the most?
Mary Engelbreit is one of my most favorites- i love the color and attention to detail she puts into her pictures.  She makes it fun, vibrant and her pictures makes kids daydream of fun places. 

Where is home base for you?
Elk Grove, CA

What do you do to get over creative block or to take a break from creating?
I have to laugh because even when i am taking a break i am still thinking of ideas or creating patterns in my head.  I try to take breaks and spend time playing with the kids or going on outings.  My big breaks will be the summer vacations that we are taking this year.

I am stay at home

I've been featured on TREASURY WEST (first time ever)

Woke up this morning with a blurred head, checked what's going on with kiddos and turned my computer on..which is a basic daily routine for me. But something is not routine sat on my email. TheBrassHussy - FAM member, made annoucement about her new treasury......click, click, scrolled down.......I FOUND MYSELF AMONG HER TREASURY YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Passed the 1K line...

I passed it..........I have more than 1000 visitors in my Etsy shop in less than 1 month....not bad huh? yay...I am so happy...................

Mozart Wannabe (at home)

Remember the story of Regina and her Cello - Quincy? It's been 3 weeks since then....she does very well at the conservatory, the teacher even thinking to take her up to the stage together on her concert early next month.

Story continues, it's been 3 days since the first time Regina asked me for a strange rewards after she finished practicing her cello...play the music with Mozart. She asked me to turn on CD of the Petit Music La Nuit (her fave) and she starts to follow the symphonie...in her own manner and notes. She starts to catch up with the music......strange huh??

Anyway, it's great to have a MOZART WANNABE....at home

BEST FATHER'S DAY PRESENT...or for another's day

Mother's day just passed, Father's day is on its way. It's so easy to buy present for mom, but not for dad. It's easy to find something unusual, cute for women, but we can't find it everyday, everywhere the right present for men.

I lived in part of Switzerland where wine and cigar is part of our daily life. We like wine on general, but we love more a special wine on the special occasion especially if the wine came in a very beautiful way (wrapped beautifully), like this one:

The last two is reversible bag, meaning...you can use it as a wrap for either woman or man...should I call it unisex lol....ok...this is how it's looks like...

something missing I guess....we need a beautiful accesories for the wine glasses, and my friend, Kelly, has it just what you need...gorgeous wine glasses charms which will make your wine more enjoyable.

 

Those are just some of her charms collections - flowers, purses and sunglasses. She made those by herself. to check more of her creation, visit her etsy shop. Neemon Purse

I always having problem when I've been invited for an informal event. I have most of my accesories in black, but since summer will come soon, or perhaps already there for some people, then I think , it's time to make something for this special season of the year while people spend more time outside the home.

Neemon Purse should be, I think, A MUST HAVE accesories for this summer. All this colorful japanese design fabrics and the elegant of the curve of its metal handle, it's just so eye-cathing. It has enough space to bring most of our survival kits (cellphone, big wallets, notebooks, PDA, etc) and the metal purse is just so easy to open, just like other's clasp purse frame.

The beauty should be inside out, for the lining inside, I used a beautiful navy polka dots cotton by Kaufmann. It constrasts very well with the colorful green japanese fabric outside.
